Release begins: Purley Festival 2015 has been hailed a great success by the festival organisers after a wonderful week which saw 1,000 people from Purley and the surrounding areas come together for a varied programme of weekday activities; and 8,000 people attend a glorious weekend finale in the sunshine at the Rotary Field, Brighton Road.

New additions for Purley Festival’s fifth year included screenings of the film “Paddington” on Friday 3rd July and during the weekend, a 40’s themed cocktail garden organised by RedFest; and a silent disco which was curated on Sunday 5th July by Massive Arms Promotions and featured DJ sets by Dave Salisbury; and Adam Murcutt and Martin Leay from Croydon Radio’s Happy Sundays show.

This was the first year that Purley Festival were able to pay for headliners and festival goers were wowed on Saturday night (4th July) by the jazz-funk of 80s chart sensations Shakatak; and dazzled on Sunday evening (5th July) by a world-class performance from local soul superstar,

There were walks; talks; music, film and arts based activities; workshops and business networking meetings throughout the week and circus workshops, visual and interactive art exhibitions across the weekend; and delicious food on offer from local traders; not forgetting a jam-packed schedule in the Children’s area at Christ Church School.

Purley Festival 2015 was a community driven and inclusive event that celebrated the local area and cultural scene, local businesses and local
people – and was enjoyed by all.

Fiona Lipscombe, Purley Festival Director says:

*“I’m so pleased that our fifth year was such a success – even the weather was perfect! *

*“We had lots of new people on our team this year with amazing ideas and incredible energy, which made the Festival even more special and exciting. Five years ago I could never have imagined that Purley Festival would become such a big and great event and it really is getting better every year. That’s down to all the amazing team members and the positivity and support from local people, organisations and businesses who all came together throughout the week to celebrate our community. *

*Thank you to our sponsors Jemca Lexus and Jemca Toyota, Sunrise of Purley, Streeter Marshall, and Laithwaites for making the Festival possible and to everyone who attended the weekend finale and donated so generously. It was fantastic to see so many people of all ages singing along to Shakatak and Omar and dancing away to all the other great acts who played at the weekend finale. It was the best one yet!*

*Stephanie Darkes, Purley Festival Musical Director and Weekend Organiser says:*

*“We really pushed the boat out this year and were honoured to have two very prestigious headliners in Shakatak and Omar and lots of local talent playing across the stages; not to mention the very first Purley Festival silent disco, which was a great success. It was brilliant to see people enjoying our fifth festival year as much as we did and we look forward to getting to work on the next one!”*
