Local business reels in massive haul as it is named Britain’s Best Chippy

UK consumers powered by P&G Professional’s grease busting range Deepio crown Danny’s Fish and Chips in Surrey ‘Britain’s Best Chippy’

To celebrate their new title, Danny’s Fish and Chips were awarded with a £1000 cheque and a certificate. Danny Tevfik, the local businessman was overjoyed to have won the national competition. Danny’s Fish & Chips is very much a family business, with three generations of the Tevfik family having now worked at the shop. Commenting on his win, Danny said “I am absolutely thrilled to have won the competition, and touched by the support of our local customers to actively go out and vote for us. Our staff have been fantastic and we work as a family. We haven’t entered a competition like this in a long time and we are extremely proud of our achievement”

Commenting on the competition’s success, Jayne Clark, P&G Professional Sales Director, UK and Ireland said: “We are thrilled at the number of voters who stood up and were counted as devotees of their favourite chippy. It’s testament to the fact that fish & chips is a culinary hallmark of UK culture, and having a good local chip shop is of great importance to communities.”

“At Procter and Gamble Professional we believe every experience counts to the customer. Fish and chip shop owners agree with us on that. The response we’ve had to our competition does go to show that customers value the effort put in by Chippy’s to ensure every fish and chip supper is special.”

P&G Professional’s grease-busting range Deepio is proud to be a long-standing supporter of fish & chip shops across Britain, supplying operators with powerful, professional solutions to help remove even the toughest burnt on grease.

Nice story about the chippy, but perhaps the last three paragraphs of public relations copy for P&G could have been edited, or maybe call up for a fresh quote? Particularly since the word “Chippy’s” was misspelled in their own wire copy…

A good point! I think what Joe means to say is that we certainly could have done those things but it’s not really our policy to do that. CronxWire is a wire service where we present the relevant parts of press releases verbatim. Currently, it’s not our policy to correct poor use of grammar or embelish/enrich the stories further – rather to transparently re-publish the content rather than dress it up into so-called “churnalism”. However we will certainly discuss it and review our stance if there’s some greater value for our readers in doing it differently. Feedback like this is always welcome.

Yeah I agree in retrospect. Though if you look at the what we were sent we’ve already cut about 40%! It wasn’t the best press release I’ve ever seen…
