Head of Croydon School of Art Tim Strange will be donning his swimshorts for charity this month, as he takes on the challenge of swimming to the Isle of Wight!

Tim will be among the 60 swimmers who will set off on the 1½ mile swim from the mainland at 5.20am on Sunday 20 July before reaching the finish line on the beach at Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight. They will also be accompanied by a raft of lifeboats, kayaks and inflatable boats during their time in the water.

Tim, who has been training in open water since March, is aiming to raise £1,000 for his selected charity, The Samaritans. The swimming challenge is part of the charity’s Swim the Solent initiative, which has been an annual fundraising event for the charity since 2012.

Tim commented: “It’s a swim that I am both looking forward to and anxious about. Although it’s a relatively short distance, it’s an early start and the weather could be damp and horrible!  The Samaritans is a great charity though and offers support to so many people and is entirely funded through donations.

“I’ll definitely use the bacon roll they have offered all swimmers at the end as an

incentive to swim as quickly as I can!”

If you would like to help Tim reach his donation target, please visit his Just Giving page.

Good luck Tim!
