Release begins: Antonio Petrosino recently won ‘Barista of the Year’ at Cafe2U’s national leadership conference in Leeds.

Antonio runs Cafe2U Merton & Croydon South, a mobile coffee business making and serving espresso-based coffee drinks and selling sweet treats and snacks from the back of his fully customised van. Every day Antonio drives around the area, making and selling his award-winning coffee at non-traditional locations including Wimbledon Stadium Business Centre, Windsor Park Industrial Estate and a number of business parks.

Antonio is no stranger to awards success having previously won the 2012 Cafe2U New Starter Award and the Best Cappuccino Award at the 2012 BSA (Beverage Standards Association) Awards. In 2013 he scooped the Cafe2U Barista of the Year award plus the Cafe2U Franchise Partner of the Year 2013/14.

At the weekends he and his van can be found at various outdoor and sporting events and will soon be attending:

  • Surrey HALF Marathon – Sunday 8 March 2015
  • The Marsden March- Sunday 22 March 2015
  • Womble Triathlon- Sunday 19 April 2015
  • The Muddy Dog Challenge- Sunday 10 May 2015

Managing director of Cafe2U, Tom Acland explains, ‘Antonio was chosen as one of our ‘Barista of the Year’ award winners in recognition of his on-going excellence at making a truly great cup of coffee with our award-winning blend. He is clearly passionate about making the perfect cup of coffee which, even in a regular café setting can be hard but, when made from the back of a van, totally exposed to the elements, can be doubly hard. He was chosen from amongst 60 + other baristas because he consistently prepare the very best coffees for their customers, combining perfect levels of espresso with textured milk and often latte art; we frequently receive feedback on his service from his customers, telling us how great he is at making their daily coffee.’

Tom explains how the award is judged, ‘The judging for this award takes place during each visit from the Cafe2U operations team, ensuring the winner is consistent in their standard of drinks preparation over a 12 month period. The standards are very high right across our outlets, so for Antonio to come out on top is a fantastic reflection of his barista skills.”

Commenting on his win Antonio, who set up the business in May 2011 said, ‘I was very pleased and surprised to win this award for the second time; I love running my Cafe2U business, making and serving the very best cups of coffee I can for my customers across Merton and South Croydon every day of the week, come rain, hail or shine. I love it when new customers take that first sip and I see the look of incredulity on their faces; they can’t understand how the best cup of coffee they’ve ever tasted has just come from the back of my van! It’s instant job satisfaction and what keeps them coming back for more. What a great job!’

If you would like Cafe2U to stop at your place of work, or attend an event at a weekend, please contact them on: or 07827 360512.
