Release begins: After moving to the area two years ago along with her husband Nick, proprietor Michelle Shaw is fulfilling a long-standing ambition to run her own coffee shop and also bringing her skills as a seamstress to offer craft workshops in conjunction with coffee – including the exclusive ‘Crafternoon Tea’.

Starting on the 27th of July for 10 weeks, Coffee Craft will be offering high quality and affordable coffee, tea and other beverages, complimented by delicious cakes and a daily menu including homemade quiche, soup, sandwiches and snacks. There will vegetarian and gluten-free options, and
many products will be locally sourced; coffee is supplied by ’Volcano’ in West Norwood, tea by Birchall Tea and cakes by ‘Sophie’s Cake Studio’ – both based in Sydenham.

Coffee Craft will provide a relaxed and friendly environment for everyone in the South Norwood area to enjoy, working with the Stanley People’s Initiative to continue establishing Stanley Halls as a centre for community interaction and celebration.

Michelle is supported by The Prince’s Trust, and is keen to work alongside Stanley Halls in promoting the regeneration of the area and offer an additional daytime facility to their already varied and popular events programme. “I’m so excited about this venture,” says Michelle. “After our own experience and speaking with many locals, this is just what the area needs.”

Initially opening 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, Coffee Craft will be developing a calendar of events and sessions to cater to a range of community groups within South Norwood. It will offer free wifi, be family-friendly, wheelchair-accessible, dog-friendly, and also has outside space for customers to enjoy.

Michelle and Nick Shaw are both South Norwood residents and had a daughter last year. They both come from a performing arts background, with Michelle having trained in Costume and worked at a wide variety of theatres including Shakespeare’s Globe, and Nick as an actor; they recently returned from a three-month stay in New York where he was performing in the Broadway transfer of the Royal Shakespeare Company production of ‘Wolf Hall’ and ’Bring Up The Bodies’.
