Release begins: The Wandle has a rich industrial heritage, in the 17th and 18th century it played a significant role in the Industrial Revolution with its waters powering over 100 mills, mostly engaged in the production of textiles and tobacco. Most of these have long since disappeared along with any artefacts they contained.

The “Wandle Treasure Hunt”, aims to locate the “treasures” removed from the Wandle (mostly for safekeeping!) as well as paintings and some of the written works associated with the Wandle. Volunteers will be trained to locate as many of these treasures as possible through internet research and possibly trips to museums. They will then be shown how to upload the treasures current location onto the Living Wandle digital archive.

The Building Exploratory are holding events to introduce the project during November and December across the 4 Wandle boroughs.
