On building Meanderlings – a personal safety app for women

Lauraine Griffiths is a non-techie who’s caught tech startup fever. For the past year she has been working on Meanderlings – a personal safety app for women that logs the user’s whereabouts and sends an alert to your social network if you don’t check-in to a destination safely.

Getting the app off the ground hasn’t been completely uneventful and Lauraine’s talk will be a great help for those who can learn from her wins and her mistakes in how non-technical people can start to build a tech product.

Chris Guy (Founder, HighStreet)

Using tech to make South London’s high streets relevant again

HighStreet is a website which allows users to search what high street shops are available in their area.

Chris Guy got the idea for his new site in March this year, when he tried to find out which shops were available in Guildford. He discovered that without knowing the area, it was difficult to find out what was on offer and began to create a website that would make the task easier.

Daniel Vernon (Founder, TeenPoke)

Building a social network exclusively for teens

Image author’s own.

TeenPoke’s aim is to enhance the way teenagers and youngsters connect, network and share. They saw that, from their research, teenagers and youngsters tend be afraid of posting or uploading certain content on Facebook and Twitter without their parents seeing or commenting. So they decided to create something for teenagers to express themselves openly online without any privacy issues or parent intervention.

To attend, sign up via Eventbrite to be put on the guestlist for this event on Thursday 18th September 7:30pm at 3Space Croydon (Floor 5, Southern House – by East Croydon Station).
