EVENT: #Croydon #TechCity – Business Panel – Thurs June 20th 7.30pm @MatthewsYard

By - Tuesday 11th June, 2013

After the success of last month’s grandiose Women in Tech event, Croydon Tech City is returning to its traditional format of demos and discussion for the June edition.

Whether you are a techie or a technophobe, there is something for everyone…

Kate Jackson – Founder, TableCrowd

On trading advocacy for entrepreneurship

Kate Jackson is an ex-city lawyer who left the suits, books, and courtroom behind to launch startup TableCrowd, a real life social network where people can meet over food.

Kate will be discussing what prompted her to make the leap from the world of commercial law to the completely unchartered territory of tech entrepreneurship; the initial idea, building the team, and how she has grown it to get over 3,000 restaurants signed up to provide weekly dining experiences.

With Croydon’s rapidly growing foodie scene and vibrant social  media community this will be a great talk for those who live to find another way to greet, meet, and eat with like-minded individuals!

Danny Jeremiah – Founder, Kinopto

On starting up, raising money and bringing cinema to the masses whilst juggling fatherhood

As avowed cinema fans and technical engineers, Danny’s and his business partner Tom’s big idea is “To get more people watching films on the big screen”.

The duo – who work out of the startup workspace in Matthews Yard – have recently raised investment through CrowdCube and will be taking us through their product, which they hope will prove that small part-time exhibitors with mainstream independent films can be an alternative to screening from DVD. Kinopto is also aimed to enable independent filmmakers to get their films shown at commercial cinemas, making small-scale self theatrical release a reality.

Danny will be talking about the highs, lows, and realities of launching a new business in the cinema industry whilst juggling a young family.

A Q&A for those who want to know everything there is to know about starting, running, and finishing a tech business

Lots of people who come to Croydon Tech City aren’t techies but have a great ideas for an app or product nonetheless.

June’s Business Panel comprises a selection of Croydon’s local business and tech startup experts – each of whom have been part of or own successful tech companies. There will be an hour-long session for you to ask any question whether it’s related to tech, marketing, finance, or law, to help you get started on the road to tech entrepreneurship.

This is your chance to start to make your idea a reality – don’t just let that idea stay hidden in your head!
