ANNOUNCEMENT: #Croydon #TechCity alumnus @Brackin to join Thiel Fellowship and receive $100,000

By - Thursday 9th May, 2013

It is my great pleasure to reveal that 18 year old Andrew Brackin, who previously presented at Croydon Tech City, has been accepted into the 2013 Thiel Fellowship which rewards the twenty most promising under-20s with $100,000 to drop out of university and start a business.

The Thiel Fellowship was set up in 2011 by Peter Thiel, a German-born American entrepreneur and venture capitalist, and is part of the wider Thiel Foundation.

Over the course of two years, Thiel fellows are unable to take up a paid position or enrol in school,  instead, they receive mentorship from the Thiel Foundation’s network of tech entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, futurists, and innovators.

Brackin,  from Warlingham, has previously founded two tech businesses, and he is currently working on his current venture Bunchy – a social crowd-funding platform.

Croydon Tech City has been in conversation with several interested parties in the US  for some time. Now we will have a CTC ambassador on the ground in Silicon Valley.

Although the nature of the award and programme means that Brackin will have to spend a significant amount of time on the West Coast, he intends to take regular trips back to Croydon Tech City and is already looking at how this move can build stronger links with the Silicon Valley tech scene and Croydon.

Congrats, Bracks – you are a HERO :)
