It is my great pleasure to announce that Lord Jim Knight of Weymouth will keynote Croydon Tech City’s April event on Thursday April 21st, 6.30pm at Sussex Innovation Centre, Croydon.

In light of the growing work and success of Croydon Tech City’s Future Tech City scheme, Lord Knight will be speaking about the importance of digital skills and education for community flourishing.

About Lord Knight

Lord Knight is the Chief Education Adviser at TES Global Ltd, a member of the House of Lords and a visiting Professor at the London Knowledge Lab of the Institute of Education.

Knight’s main policy interests are education, employment, skills and digital technology. He was the longest serving Schools minister in the UK government led by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown; he also served as Rural Affairs minister and Employment minister. He attended weekly Cabinet in the year running up to the 2010 General Election, and joined the Lords after that election.

Knight is also the co-owner of XRapid, diagnosing malaria with iPhones. He is chair of the Tinder Foundation and a trustee of the Jim Cronin Memorial Fund.

Croydon Tech City growth continues into 2016

Lord Knight’s acceptance to keynote our April event is a great coup for the Croydon Tech City movement which – now in its fourth year – has made considerable impact on Croydon’s economy (The FT), property market (The Times), education (The Croydon Advertiser), inward investment (The Evening Standard) and reputation (Metro).

Croydon Tech City was recently described by the Minister for the Cabinet Office, Matt Hancock, as a “blueprint for the future”, and Lord Knight’s voice will be a valuable addition to the community’s aims to make Croydon the ‘Silicon Valley of South London’.

The Croydon Tech City management team will also take this opportunity to update the audience on some of the exciting ways in which Croydon is embracing technology and digital skills throughout the borough, and there will also be a presentation from a local tech startup.

This event is sure to be oversubscribed – to secure your place, please register now.
