EVENT: #Croydon #TechCity: Schools Edition – Thurs 21st 7.30pm @MatthewsYard

By - Monday 11th February, 2013

N.B. This is called a ‘Schools Edition’ because the intention is to have as many Croydon primary teachers, headteachers, parents and governors present to learn about Code Club  – a volunteer-led national scheme to teach coding to 9-11 year olds.

Everyone is welcome, no matter what your interest, background, or profession – you don’t have to be involved in Croydon’s primary schools to come along!

Clare Sutcliffe and Linda Sandvik (Founders, Code Club)

Clare Sutcliffe (co-founder, Code Club) – Linda Satvik will be speaking on the night

Clare and Linda are the co-founders of Code Club: a nationwide network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11.

Linda will be giving a talk on the Code Club movement – which is expanding to 500 primary schools (but none in Croydon, yet!) – explaining what it entails and to what effect, with Q&A after.

For reasons that I expounded here, I think having Code Clubs in Croydon’s primary schools things is a really, really good thing for the borough’s economic and social improvement. Not just now, but for the generations to come.

Croydon Tech City unveils the Code Club team and borough programme

The Croydon Tech City: Code Club Team – who will be organising the roll out of Code Clubs in Croydon’s Primary schools

Rather than just talk about Code Club, Croydon Tech City is eager to make it happen as soon as possible!

Following Linda’s talk there will be a presentation from the CTC Code Club steering team and some young people, who will explain how they will run Code Clubs for any primary schools that are interested from April onwards.

And demos from Croydon’s young startup founders!

Croydon is home to lots of young budding startup entrepreneurs and coders who are building very cool products. This session of Croydon Tech City will have a few demos from some of the borough’s most promising young people.

If you are a parent, teacher, headteacher, governor, or just an interested local – make sure you are here to see how you can help Croydon Tech City to change Croydon for the better.

Please sign up to the Facebook event page for Croydon Tech City’s Schools Edition Event on Thurs 21st February 7:30pm at Matthews Yard, Croydon.
