It is my great pleasure to announce that the Rt Hon. Matt Hancock, Minister for the Cabinet Office and the man charged to drive the government’s digitisation strategy, will keynote Croydon Tech City 2016 launch on Thursday January 21st, 7pm at Croydon Conference Centre.

From a family software business to frontline British Government

Matthew’s first job was with his family computer software business.  Later, he worked for five years as an economist at the Bank of England and in 2005 moved to work for the then Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne.

“The potential for transformation driven by digital is vast, and we are reforming public services to take advantage of state-of-the-art technologies, not just now but including innovations to come.”

The Minister for the Cabinet Office has overall responsibility for the policy and work of the department, with Matt’s responsibilities including public sector efficiency and reform, and digital transformation of government.

Whilst in frontline government, Hancock has been a champion of Open Data initiatives and has overseen the process of the government publishing over 20,000 datasets. He is currently working with tech entrepreneurs from the public and industry to get their ideas on how the UK’s digital revolution can be taken to the next stage.

Croydon Tech City growth continues into 2016

Hancock’s acceptance to keynote our 2016 launch event is a great coup for the Croydon Tech City movement which – now entering its fourth year – has made considerable impact on Croydon’s economy (The FT), property market (The Times), education (The Croydon Advertiser), inward investment (The Evening Standard) and reputation (Metro).

The Croydon Tech City management team will also be unveiling their plans for 2016, and there will be a presentation from a local tech startup.

This event is sure to be oversubscribed: to secure your place, please register now.
