Croydon’s most ambitious cultural celebration is about to start, with something for everyone

2015 is our first year, and we’ve started as we mean to go on. Croydon’s certainly ambitious, and the acts that we’ll be seeing in venues around the town centre and across the borough reflect it: top talent, exciting newcomers and original entertainment that have put Croydon straight onto some ‘ones to watch’ festival listings.

Ambition is for everyone – it’s accessible, affordable, largely child-friendly and, thanks to our great local transport connections, so easy to get to from all over the south east of England as well as any part of London. You can choose what to see from a dazzling range of choices, buy tickets for just what you want, and there are five free stages over the weekend of the event. They’ll be outside the Fairfield Halls and the town hall, up in North End and over at the ‘beach’ in Ruskin Square. So why not drop by for great music, street food and the cool festival vibe that events such as Purley’s fantastic carnival finale have already shown Croydon does so well?

Laughs, lingerie and love in the Ashcroft Theatre

There’s a large family area in the heart of Old Town with loads of fun planned for children, and if music’s not your thing then cheer up – there’s masses of mirth at Ambition, with the pop-up comedy Blundabus from Heroes of Fringe, Debarred Unleashed offering laughs, lingerie and love as they put on Femmetamorphosis in the Ashcroft Theatre, and even Musical Bingo at the Spread Eagle pub theatre. Check out the Blundabus’s eclectic Edinburgh Fringe-style comedy line-up in Queen’s Gardens right now, before it rolls onto the Fairfield forecourt for the festival weekend of 25th and 26th July.

And if you’d like to support local talent, how about coming to see Natalie Shay – still a student at Croydon’s famous Brit School, but making a name for herself as two-time winner of the London-wide Gigs award and a red carpet player who performed at this year’s Brit Awards?

Everyone’s invited, so come and join in!

Don’t just want to be entertained, and fancy joining in? So how about an interactive dance workshop, running across the festival weekend with Croydon Heart Town – proving that having a wonderful time can also be good for you?

Ambition Festival is supported by the Croydon Partnership, EM Highways, Veolia, Platform Ruskin Square and the Croydon Volunteer Centre. It’s all about supporting the local community and we’d like to pass on our thanks to them for all their support in the countdown to the event.

Most important of all – festivals are meant to be fun, and we’re sure this one will be. It’s a celebration – of great talent, of the potential of our town and its inhabitants, and of Croydon’s ability to put on a great party. And it’s coming soon – 20th-23rd July. Everyone’s invited to come along and join in.
