According to pageant organiser Leah Prescod, the Miss British Beauty Curve pageant is a plus-size beauty pageant aimed to encourage curvy women to follow their dreams. The aim is to empower curvy women by focusing on self-development and confidence building. Each finalist represents their area. With finalists coming from all across Great Britain to compete, Claire has fierce competition.

The 2015 ceremony is set to take place in Epsom Playhouse on Saturday 8th August. This glamorous event will consist for four live rounds; opening number, fashion wear, swimwear and evening wear the finalists will also do an off stage interview. The judging panel consists of culturally diverse industry professionals from all walks of the entertainment industry. The winner will enjoy a year’s reign as Miss British Beauty Curve 2015, a glamorous photo shoot, and much more.

Claire is already familiar with the catwalk and fashion world, having modelled as a plus-size model. For her, this pageant will boost her confidence and demonstrate no matter what shape, age or size, any woman can look beautiful. According to Claire, it is important to have a growing number of plus sizes ladies represented in the fashion industry.

Working with Dalila’s Kaftans was an obvious choice as the choice of dresses on offers compliment well plus-size figure.

Having been bullied and singled out as she grew up for her size and her height, Claire thinks size does not quantify beauty, and whatever your size or shape, you should be comfortable and happy with who you are. Her aim is to promote body confidence and for people to embrace their bodies, especially if they are curvy.

In her own words: “I’m living my dreams and I couldn’t be more excited about the future, all you need is hard work, ambition, perseverance and a positive attitude to achieve anything!”

Odile Letaief, a 38 year old former business adviser to local businesses in Croydon started Dalila’s Kaftans upon becoming a mother, the business being named after her first child.

Having studied Marketing and Business and with the valuable insight gained whilst working with local businesses, Odile knew that keeping cost down is essential to starting up. That is why operating from home was an obvious choice, and an online shop made international trading pretty much instant from day one with clients across the globe: the USA, Australia and other countries as far as Venezuela.

The idea of offering evening garments particularly appreciated by plus sizes came upon looking for evening garment after Odile gave birth to Dalila, hence the business name: Dalila’s Kaftans. The dresses, part of Dalila’s Kaftans collection, flatter ladies’ curves (especially those gained during pregnancy) and instantly make any ladies attractive no matter shape, size and age.

Based in Croydon since November 2013, the company now has many stockists in London, Surrey and Sussex, including Beyond Expectations Wedding Services, the local bridal shop on Park Street, Croydon, also selling on many online platforms including ASOS Marketplace.

A key achievement was winning a contract to sell UK Wide on IdealWorld Home-Shopping TV under 6months of trading, and being highly commended in Croydon Business Award in 2014 (during the 1st year of trading for the business). The beginning of 2015 has seen a 10k cash injection of government funding into the business via Prospects which is used to increase TV sells and more general business cashflow. 2015 has also seen the introductions of accessories, offering more choice to ladies looking for boho hippy and stylish evening accessories.

Dalila’s Kaftans collection is back on TV from Friday 3rd April 2015 on a weekly basis so tune in on IdealWorld Fashion show to view the dresses modelled for real and for special offers.

Despite being pregnant with her second baby, Odile has high hope and many plans for this year including a book Mumtrepreneur on its way, providing tips to mums that may also be used by dads operating or wanting to start an online business from home whilst juggling childcare.
