All local veterans are invited to celebrate Armed Forces Week at a special lunch

Just like the citizens of Croydon, veterans don’t have a singular identity – some may have been frontline troops, while others were pilots or served in the navy. Some fought in the Second World War and others fought for their nation in recent conflicts. Many veterans may not have fought at all, but rather served in the Land Army, as medics, or worked in a munitions factory.

If you are a veteran, in any capacity, Croydon Commitment wants to hear from you.

Croydon Commitment is a charity that connects businesses with the community, and is hosting a lunch for all Croydon veterans to celebrate their service. Individuals of any age who have served or have a wider association with the armed forces community – and a connection to Croydon – are welcome to attend. The event will take place at 11:30am at the De Vere Selsdon Estate on Monday 25th June. This year, a group of air cadets is also invited to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Air Force.

A chance to reminisce with other guests and celebrate their service with the community

Croydon Commitment previously hosted the veteran’s celebratory lunch in 2016 and had over 100 local veterans in attendance. They were recently awarded a grant by the Armed Forces Covenant to host the 2018 event. Colonel McRobbie, OBE, TD, DL, Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Croydon is delighted that the event provides a way to recognise the service of veterans living in the borough.

“The 2016 celebratory lunch was a splendid occasion and we are keen to celebrate this year’s event with as many veterans as possible”, McRobbie said.

Croydon Commitment says that guests will enjoy a fine lunch and have a chance to reminisce with other veterans and celebrate their service with the community. Anyone who would like to be a guest, or who knows someone who may be interested in attending, can contact Melinda Ashford by phone on 0208 774 3680 or 07786 438964, or by email at . Information on sponsorship packages regarding the event is also available.
