Addiscombe’s season stalls

Addiscombe’s run of 4 wins in a row was ruthlessly stopped by Chipstead and Coulsdon on Saturday

ADDISCOMBE  160 all out

Addiscombe lost the toss on a damp pitch and was immediately put under pressure by Chipstead’s opening bowlers who found some movement and alarming bounce off a length.

Addiscombe kept on losing regular wickets, while batsmen were getting in and then not pressing on. Chipstead’s variety of three spinners knocked out the middle order of Addiscombe’s to reduce them to 100-8. Addiscombe reached a respectable total of 160 in 53 overs thanks to the efforts of Saleem who hit a valiant 38 not out.

When Chipstead’s reply started Addisombe knew that early wickets were the key, and while there were some plays and misses as well as false shots, the breakthrough did not come until the 16 over with Moore bowling the opener for 26. Woods joined Sandu and both batted positively and sensibly to put on 99 for the next wicket, until with just 15 runs required Sandu spooned one in the air off of the Bowlin of Enslin for 71. Chipstead cruised home in 33.2 overs.

Addiscombe was outplayed in all facets of the game, but will take some valuable lessons away from this game and will look to bounce back quickly against Epsom next week.
